Initial situation
The event industry is facing growing challenges: Efficient planning, individual customer requests and limited resources require new solutions. Traditional 2D plans and time-consuming coordination often lead to misunderstandings, delays and high costs, while customers expect more transparency and active participation.
The Lorzensaal offers flexible room design – from lowering the floor for grandstands to extending the room with circular lifting walls. This adaptability enables tailor-made event concepts, but makes it difficult for customers to visualize.
Our task was to make the versatile interior design of the Lorzensaal with its own furniture a digital experience for customers, to facilitate customer communication and to make processes more efficient.
Our solution
We present the web-based Lorzensaal 3D configurator – an intuitive 3D solution that enables a realistic visualization of seating options as well as floor and room adaptations of the Lorzensaal. This gives users a better spatial understanding of their event layouts and creates a clear, shared understanding between customers and organizers.
The configurator can be used without prior knowledge and offers practical functions such as a true-to-scale PDF export and detailed furniture statistics that support efficient planning and implementation. In addition, designed room layouts can be shared as a link, edited and versioned, which makes communication and collaboration much easier.
Structure
In addition to the main hall, the 3D configurator can also be used to interactively design and customize adjoining rooms as well as the entrance and foyer. Predefined templates are available for each room to make planning easier. The room configuration also enables various adjustments such as opening or closing walls and doors, lowering the floor for grandstands and creating stage configurations.
The furniture types and their maximum availability are defined for each room. Each piece of furniture has customizable properties such as position, rotation, colour categorization and text information. In addition, special functions such as arranging chairs at tables or stacking furniture (e.g. chair on stage element) provide flexible design options.
Furniture or entire groups can be deleted, duplicated or evenly aligned to ensure an optimal arrangement. For better orientation, room boundaries are displayed in green during editing. An undo/redo function allows changes to be quickly undone or reapplied. In addition, the furniture statistics provide an overview of the number and type of objects placed in the room.
Planned rooms, including furniture statistics, can be exported as a true-to-scale 2D PDF for further use. The entire scene can be saved, edited again later and shared as a link for easy collaboration and quick access. Users can contact the Lorzensaal directly via a request form.
Administrators have extended rights. They can mark templates as public or private, manage advanced furniture and room configurations and block the editing of scenes. In addition, escape routes can be integrated into the planning to ensure a safe room design.

Automation & process optimization
True-to-scale 2D PDFs with all configuration details and material statistics are generated automatically, saving time and resources and increasing efficiency.
Visual feedback and real-time adjustments
Changes to the seating or room layout are displayed in real time so that users can immediately see the effect of their adjustments.
User-centered information architecture
Clear navigation enables users to switch effortlessly between different room configurations and place furnishing elements in a targeted manner.
Implementation
The user interface is implemented according to the customer’s CI colors and uses dynamic, widget-like elements that appear depending on the context. This keeps it clear, intuitive and makes it easier to get started quickly.
All rooms and furniture were modelled true to scale and optimized for the room configurator. To ensure smooth interaction even with hundreds of pieces of furniture per room – especially in virtual desktop environments – special 3D techniques from game development were used. In addition, image rendering pauses automatically if there is no user interaction or camera animation.
Technologically, we rely on a combination of HTML5 and interactive 3D presentation via WebGL/WebGPU. Our responsive PHP backend communicates with the frontend via a JSON API and ensures a high-performance web application.
The application is optimized for all devices: On desktops and tablets, it offers full functionality for precise room planning. Configurations can be conveniently called up and viewed on smartphones – ideal for quick set-ups on the move.
Conclusion
Due to the high popularity and positive customer experience, new functions and AI-based planning of room configurations are already being worked on to make the application even more intelligent and future-proof.
In addition, shortly after going live, other location operators showed interest in their own 3D solution.
This shows that the Lorzensaal 3D configurator not only simplifies the planning process, but is also actively shaping the digital future of the event industry.
